Omorashi

Omorashi (オモラシ / おもらし / お漏らし, Omorashi?) is a fetish subculture recognized predominantly in Japan, in which participants experience arousal from having a full bladder or a sexual attraction to someone else experiencing the feeling of a full bladder. For such fetishists, climax usually coincides with the moment of relief and embarrassment experienced when the desperate individual loses bladder control and experiences incontinence. Outside of Japan, it is not usually identified separately from urolagnia. Westerners who do make the distinction commonly use phrases such as "bladder desperation" or "panty wetting." The Japanese language term from which the subculture's name is derived means "to wet oneself," literally translated, "leaking." The word is also occasionally romanized as "omorasi."

Attitudes toward sexuality in omorashi media

Most fetish activities concerning the use of bodily waste are considered by the general public as "hardcore," taboo, or edgeplay. However, most omorashi videos are among the most softcore of erotica, featuring innocent young women, fully clothed, who have gotten themselves into an embarrassing bathroom situation. Though they may occasionally feature some nudity, omorashi videos do not feature direct sexual contact; their content can be described as fitting within the MPAA's definition of an R rating. The focus on clothed rather than overtly sexual images makes garment fetishism a prominent feature in most omorashi erotica: commonly featured outfits include those worn by schoolgirls, female working professionals, and other women attempting to look dignified before succumbing to the need to wet themselves. Depending on one's role in an omorashi scenario (as the wetter or the watcher) these acts could be variously considered a form of sadism, masochism, sadomasochism, or erotic humiliation. It is worth noting that these scenarios almost invariably feature female wetters over males, and that the focus generally falls on the wetter's tendency toward the irrepressible submissive qualities commonly associated with feminine weakness. Male wetters, when they are depicted, usually retain these same submissive feminine qualities. In Japan, these attitudes are recognized as belonging to the wider archetype of moe (pronounced "mo-eh") fetishism. From this perspective, the incontinence serves as the essential, obvious sympathetic weakness that moe characters work hard to correct but never really succeed at getting rid of.

Omorashi in Japan

There are many ways in which omorashi is practiced in Japan.

Yagai

One of the variations is known as omorashi yagai, which translates as "to wet oneself outdoors (or publicly)." A further variation includes yagai hōnyō, or "outdoor (or public) urination," in which the subject publicly removes their clothes to urinate. Other yagai hōnyō practitioners operate much like graffiti artists, attempting the public urination acts without being caught.

Game shows

Japanese omorashi fans also enjoy game shows in which contestants must compete in various urine-holding challenges. The Giga video company's "Desperation Tournament" series is one of the best known examples of this kind of contest. One such activity has been a panel of contestants competing to guess which woman has to use the restroom, or is wearing a diaper.

Diapers

Another variation of omorashi play is omutsu omorashi, less commonly called oshime omorashi, both of which translate as "to wet oneself in a diaper." This omutsu variation is essentially the same as the standard omorashi, except that the participants are wearing a diaper instead of panties. Diapers may be favorable for public wetting because they render it more discrete and eliminate mess, and their use is not limited specifically to those with a diaper fetish. However, omorashi fetishists specifically interested in this aspect of the subculture could be considered a Japanese variation of the diaper lover community.

Fantasy services

Prostitution, defined by the government as genital-to-genital contact, is illegal in Japan. "Image clubs" or "pink salons" are establishments specialized in oral sex, but recently some have added a number of other "not-quite-sex" services such as massage plus oral sex or a range of other fetish oriented services that do not include genital-to-genital contact, such as costumes and settings. An omorashi service can involve either the client, the masseuse, or both, wetting themselves, with or without a diaper. This can sometimes involve a "teiku auto" (a wasei-eigo of the English phrase "take out") where you get to take home your masseuse's wet panties or diaper, or just their urine in a bottle.

Soiled schoolgirl panties were at one time also available in Japan through vending machines. However, in 2004, the Tokyo metropolitan government passed a bill to ban the sale of panties worn by underage girls. Shortly after this law was passed, it was reported that some underage girls (called kagaseya or "sniffers") were instead allowing their clients to sniff their underwear from directly between their legs. Others chose to sell photos of themselves, throwing in the used panties for free. These acts of pseudo-prostitution or "enjo kōsai" are one of the foundations of kogal culture in Japan.

Eroge

An eroge (エロゲー, erogē?, erotic game) is a Japanese video or computer game that features erotic content, usually in the form of anime-style artwork. A number of omorashi focused games, such as Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber have become popular in recent years.

Anime and manga

Main article: list of anime and manga featuring omorashi Japanese produced omorashi media also include comic books and animation. These range from independently produced dōjinshi to large commercially produced manga. Some focus exclusively on omorashi stories, while others include only the occasional scene. Some contain obvious sexual themes and could be considered a form of H manga, while others, like Iinari! Aibure-shon are famous as all-ages comics, featuring only mild ecchi content such as panchira. Wetting scenes have existed in anime as early as the popular Devilman of the 1970s. However, these did not have the erotic context which characterizes modern omorashi media, since they predated the first full-blown anime pornography, which was not available until 1984, when the advent of the first H anime OVAs such as Wonder Kids' Lolita Anime were made possible by the widespread availability of home video. One example of this later erotic context is the 1994 H anime OVA Vixens, which features scenes of incontinence in a setting that is overtly sexual.

Collectibles

With the translation of omorashi into manga and its subsequent adoption by otaku fandom, a number of omorashi themed collectibles have appeared on the Japanese market, including "Shizukuishi kyuun kyuun toilet paper" printed with wetting scenes featuring Shizukuishi, a popular character from the omorashi manga, Iinari! Aibure-shon.

Acceptance

Public urination in general (both within and outside of fetish subculture) is considered far more acceptable in Japan than in some Western countries. Public nudity is also considered a lesser social taboo. Additionally, recent studies show that an increasing number of Japanese children are wetting their beds and even wearing diapers full time, well into elementary school. To meet this demand, larger diapers have appeared on the Japanese market. One example includes the "Goo.N Refreshing Bigger than Big Size Diapers," intended for seven-year-old boys and girls. The adult diaper market in Japan is also growing. Even fully continent Japanese do not frown on wetting themselves in public, using a diaper, when toilets are inconvenient: a group of diaper-wearing Japanese tourists made the front page of the New York Post on New Year's Day 2008 when they agreed to pose for a publicity shot endorsing diapers as a solution to inadequate restroom facilities at the ball drop in Times Square.

Wetting oneself and spanking

Davy Jones spanks his niece Sandy for wetting herself instead of using the potty. Fan-art by Barbossasdaughter.

A person can be spanked for wetting themself, such as for bedwetting. Diapering (e.g. Diaper Discipline or Diaper Domination) might also be a consequence.

A person can also lose control of their bladder while they are being spanked.

Safety warning

Bladder rupture may occur if the bladder is overfilled and not emptied. This happens in extreme situations only, e.g. when under stupor after alcohol intoxication. The famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is believed to have died after a bladder rupture resulting in uremia, after he had refused to leave a banquet to relieve himself because it would have been a breach of etiquette.
